FEATURED PEAK NEWS
2017 Playful City Recognition
We did it again! Alberton has just been recognized by KaBOOM! as a 2017 Playful City USA community. Together we are incorporating play into our programs, policies, and infrastructure to make our community more kid- and family-friendly.
The PEAK Foundation looks forward to continuing to work with the community to provide a PLAYce for children to grow and have fun.
PEAS Grant for Students
Thanks to a grant from the Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation, PEAK has five $200 grants available for Alberton students. For details about the PEAS (Promoting Excellence in Alberton-area Students) grant, click here.
Thanks to everyone who attended Book Bingo on May 31st, and thank you for the donations that helped make this happen!
We're aiming to do it again this fall, possibly in December, so continue to keep us in mind for book donations.
Hank Roat Memorial Park Renovation Project
At the March Town Council meeting, the town council approved the seeking of design firms for inclusion of the skate park. PEAK was also given the go-ahead to begin seeking funding opportunities for the park renovation project.
The Alberton town council has approved the PEAK Foundation's proposal to repair/resurface the west tennis court and replace the east court with a recreational area geared toward youth ages 10 and older.
Results of the Community Survey:
We had 59 responses to our survey, with 28% from youth younger than 10, 58% from youth between the ages of 11 and 17, and 15% from those older than 17.
The top-three overall picks from the results were:
1) Rock Climbing Wall
2) Skate Park Equipment
3) Climbing ladder & ropes
We are now in the planning phases and will try to incorporate those top-three choices and as many others as possible depending on the available space, funding, and ultimately the decision of the town council.
Stay tuned for further updates!
