On September 9, 2019, Alberton celebrated the grand opening of its new skatepark, designed and built by the prestigious team from Evergreen Skateparks! More than 100 attendees shared in the event, and although the weather predicted a 100% chance of rain, not a drop fell during the event and plenty of skateboarding, scootering, and BMX biking took place. Music and free food enhanced the atmosphere. Girls on Shred offered a pre-event and stayed throughout the afternoon, providing tips, encouragement, and equipment to all new skateboarders of all ages. Jeff Ament, Pearl Jam bassist and skatepark philanthropist, also gave out tips—not to mention equipment and swag! Fun story: one youth was hedging on whether she wanted to give it a try. Mr. Ament walked up to her and told her he'd give her the skateboard in his hands if she went for it. She did, and has been hard at work at the skatepark practicing her newly found love ever since! Picture Practicing the art of dropping in (photo courtesy of Barnibbe Photography) PEAK held a 12,000-square-foot sod-laying party shortly after the grand opening, with 26 volunteers helping to make the site even more beautiful! PEAK would not be able to function without its hard-working volunteers, so here's a shoutout to everyone who worked so hard! This skatepark was funded with grants from the Tony Hawk Foundation, Montana Pool Service, Montana Skatepark Association, Washington Foundation in collaboration with Montana Rail Link, private funders, and various fundraisers. The process took three years of grant writing, fundraising, and planning to get to this point, but the efforts have been well worth it! Although the foundation and sod are laid, we still have plans to make this site even more beautiful. With a little more fundraising, future plans for this area include lights to allow nighttime use up until 9:00 PM, benches, picnic tables, and some permanent garbage cans, as well as a sign welcoming users and providing guidelines on how to be an ambassador of the park. If you'd like to show your support for these enhancements or help build a maintenance fund for the skatepark, click the Show Your Support Here button at the top of this page! We hope to see you at the park! BENEFITS OF SKATEPARKS Physical and Mental Health Benefits: Flexibility, endurance, coordination, and stress relief are all ways skateboarding helps an individual. Safe environment for skateboarding: Skateboarding in the street or on other people's property is dangerous and often illegal; providing a skate spot keeps the town looking nice and participants safer. Skateboarding allows those not interested in team sports to partake in a physical activity.

A good tennis court will bring families and groups out for a great whole-body activity. In addition to general community use, it will be available for the school to use for tennis team practices, enabling our students to practice here instead of commuting to Superior. Tennis provides a great cardiovascular workout and enhances muscle and bone strength as well as flexibility. It's a great overall workout! The tennis court demo took place fall of 2020. Request for bids to rebuild one new court will take place in spring of 2022. Plans also include a pickle ball court.

Parkour Visions has created the perfect concept design for our park. This exciting 1800 square foot design will provide a fun area for any age to practice the art of parkour, and it is expandable up to another 3600 square feet. This phase will begin spring of 2020, along with the new tennis court. The parkour area is a community build, so drop us a line if you'd like to be a part of building this! WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MOVEMENT? Full-body workout: Cardiovascular, muscular, and core strength are all needed to perform parkour moves. Boosts confidence: Conquering moves and jumps is a booster for any young person or even adults Promotes creativity: The obvious solution to a move isn't always readily available, so thinking outside the box is necessary Anyone can do it, so let's get moving! Want to learn more or take some classes before the park gets built?

In 2013, a group of local volunteers established the Promoting Excellence in Alberton-area Kids Foundation - “PEAK” - with a mission to build and support a community of thriving children and families by bringing meaningful activities that engage, entertain, and educate our area kids. As we prepare for a new decade of service, PEAK needs your help to 1) expand our programs and community events, 2) increase scholarships for local youth, and 3) complete the Hank Roat Memorial Park Renovation.

In 2016, PEAK embarked on a journey to improve the Hank Roat Memorial Park with the addition of a new Skate Park (COMPLETE), Parkour Course, Walking Path, Tennis Court, and other Recreational Features. With the support of our community partners and generous donors, PEAK has raised nearly $250,000 to improve this community asset. This summer, we will break ground on Phase 2 of the Park Project, which includes the addition of a 1/3 mile walking path to the Park and the renovation of the existing tennis court. New Paragraph
